Garland Genoho:It is not right that you should say to the OP not to buy one. It is for him to decide what he values more - best picture and sound OR faster loading times and interactive content, for his money.

The poster asked for an opinion, AK gave him an opinion. What's the problem?

About not buying one. Why not buy one when this £900.00 player only costs about £400+ now???

Totally agree Garland, its a steal !

I have just purchased a Denon DVD2500BT at a real steal - this is the player I have been looking for. I'm not interested in loading times...I want the best picture and sound quality and Clare has confirmed herself that the Denon is a better machine than both the Pioneer BDP-LX52 and Sony BDP-S760.

Those who choose loading times over picture and sound quality are plain mad!

Garland Genoho:maybe not to you, but yes to a poor person like me. has to be best value for money.

I have no idea of your income or outgoings, nor you mine, but that has nothing to do with what the player originally sold for, and what relevance it has to the price at which it's now on sale.

After all, if something originally sold for £2500 and is now on sale for £1000, does that mean you are getting a vastly superior product to others also on sale for a grand? Or that the product was originally 150% overpriced, and has now found its true worth in the market?

Is this why the Sony BDP-S360 that is a new machine and cost £200.00 at launch is now being practically given away for free, while the Panasonic DMP-BD35 which is an older machine, albeit an excellent one, actually costs much more than the Sony everywhere else?

jase fox:OMG loading times, loading times?! What is it people with loading times? It seems like whenever anybody is giving there little reviews of bluray players its "loading times slow" or "takes ages" what about PERFORMANCE IN PQ & AQ?? Nevermind something as trivial as loading times, now if a player took around 5mins ish to load then id completely agree, but it takes over a min at worst.

As far as im concerned it can be a great great grandfather with the performance it knocks out.

It really depends on what your preferences are. I don't think the Denon is VASTLY superior to the Pioneer LX52 to justify the 100 quid premuim, apart from being slow. It's certainly slower than a minute due to its slow processor. Anyways, that's my opinion. If you're happy with the Denon, good for you. If loading time is not important for you, again, good for you.

brett morris:im buying a new blu ray player, and its between the pioneer lx52 and the denon 2500bt. on pure audio/video performance, which is better? any opinion welcome

I hope you're aware that the Denon 2500BT is only a transport & doesn't have any analogue audio outputs, or even coaxial or optical digital sockets. You'll need a multichannel amplifier or processor that
can accept audio signals over HDMI and decode them appropriately.

WHF Dec 2009 issue (pages 68-71):

Blu-ray players Group Test £400-£450

Contenders:

1. Denon DBP-1610 (4 stars) - £400

2. Pioneer BDP-320 (5 stars) - £400

3. Sony BDP-S760 (5 stars) - Group Test Winner - £400

Alternative blu-ray players :

''We would expect most people to be more than happy with any of the three players within this Group Test, but if you're not convinced, there's plenty more choice'' [ Why would we need more choices if these players were so great, more so when they cost more than the players in this test?]

1. Pioneer BDP-LX52 (£550, 5 stars) - '' The BDP--LX52 manages a cleaner, sharper Blu-Ray image compared with the BDP-320, and more detailed sound too''.{Does this sound to you like a resounding victory?}

2. Denon DVD-2500BT (£500, 5 stars) - '' When we last saw the Denon Transport, it cost £899. Now 18 months old - so move quickly - it's widely available at around the £500 mark, which makes it something of a bargain. The Denon's premium credentials are immediately apparent. It's the performance that is of primary concern to us - and this is a senstional performer. If pure AV performance is your concern, look no further''.

(This definitely IS a resounding victory!!!)

Now, I think that's what I've been saying all along, right, and a DIRECT answer to the OP's question??

It seems this 'grandfather' is still kicking the butts of these 'punks'!! LOL

Garland, that's why Andy Kerr started his initial reply by stating that the Denon's the better performer. But it would be strange for us not to also mention usability as a factor.....

Has Oppo fever mutated to Denon form?

No, no....Oppo was based on Will's fantasy. The Denon is based on facts. That's the difference.

Talking of 'based on facts', what AK actually said, after acknowledging the superior performance of the Denon, was

Andy Kerr:but I don't think you should buy one

He then went on to explain why he was of this opinion.

As a very happy owner of an Oppo, I can assure you there is no fantasy involved. For a universal player it is dirt cheap, there is a reason why a number of high end manafacturers have used it as a basis for their own machine (or indeed made it their own machine in one case). The picture and sound are excellent, it is the most user friendly player I have come across, the support is terrific and it has the ability to play SACD, DVD-A and HDCD. I have been a satisfied owner of Denon products, but I would not swap the Oppo for the 2500 (actaually, I dont know of a player I would swap it for apart from the Marantz Universal player but I think that is a £4500) There are a number of Oppo owners on the forum (not to mention Andrew) and I believe they are all happy with it.

No reason why it should, and anyway there's a couple of much better candidates on the simmer at the moment...
