where to put the TV/surround speakers?

Below is the floor plan of the ground floor of the new kennyg76 mansions (hopefully). We're buying pretty much off-plan - we've not yet been allowed in for a look. The lounge will be approx 24 feet long by 10 feet wide (and a bit wider at the back), and the TV aeriel point will be on the left hand wall near the back of the room. I hope to have either a 37 or 42 inch flatscreen by the time we move in, and will be taking my trusty Denon amp and Kef 1005 speakers with me. Question is - for a decent soundfield, how on earth are we going to lay out this room? I'd prefer the TV to be flat to a wall (though not necessarily wall mounted) rather than in the corner.

Picture's a bit small, I take it the lounge is on the left? You've got the same problem I have, windows at each end of the room (or are they patio doors?) Is it wide enough to set up everything across the the wider part at the top? Might be a bit square that way though.

Easy solution though, convert that garage! ahem...

But not sure it's so practical. Yeah, the lounge is the one on the left, with windows back and front. I guess putting the TV half way along the left hand wall would be ok, having the sofa facing it (where indeed the sofa is on the picture) but it might mean some odd rear-speaker positioning. They'll be going up on wall brackets just below ceiling height in any case. The fronts can sit on the TV rack (which is quite wide) or be wall-mounted.

Hmm, halfway along that wall is going to be putting it into the narrower section, not sure it's quite wide enough really, which is why I suggested the wider end. Mind you I've got no idea about distances without being there, so I might be way off.

That way you could have a stereo pair at the other end of the room firing up the room lengthways for listening to music! Bonus...

It is hard to tell from the small pic but my first thought would be that the wee Kefs might struggle in that room but it will all depend on where you put your couches for your main viewing/listening.

Yeah, the Kefs would definitely struggle if I put them in the four corners of the room - my thinking was that it might be best to use the squarer bit of the lounge for the surround sound field. But that'd rule out the aesthetically pleasing TV halfway up the wall scenario. It may become more apparent what I should do when I actually get to see inside the place - it's not going to be fully built till about October.

......and whilst the TV 'halfway up the wall' may be aesthetically pleasing, just try looking up like that for an hour from your favourite armchair. ÿNo, on second thoughts, you know it's painful after about 10 seconds!
