When (Yamaha) remotes go bad....

My old RAV372 WM88530 Yamaha remote control is refusing to control my Yamaha remotely.

This is a problem as the YPAO can only be adjusted/setup using the remote.

Do all Yamaha remotes work with all Yamaha AVRs? I get that specific AVR functions may need a specific remote, but what about the basics? For YPAO I probably only need the arrows and Enter buttons to work.

Thanks for any answers 🙂

I'd guess that (at least) those basic functions would work from another Yamaha remote.

No doubt you can see that all its battery contacts are clean - would be worth aiming the remote into something that can 'see' any transmission. Would be a shame to get a new remote only to find the IR receiver to be the problem.

You may be correct.

However, if you remove/replace the batteries, the remote has an unreadable set of pixels in the LCD info screen. Sometimes you can get it to show something sensible, but e.g. if you attempt to clear the learning function, it flashes 'error'. It seems likely that the remote is FUBAR.

A cunning plan my Lord, but unfortunately my Yamaha is Class S. That's S for Steam powered, and does not talk with this new fangled internet thing.
