How many on / off cycles do you expect in a day?

With our "little cherubs" think about the same number of times the traffic lights change in a day.

Seriously, the DLP bulbs in out TV were lucky to last a month.

And as 4K TV sizes go up, and prices hold below an"affordable" $10k, the smaller the cost / benefit difference will become. Right now the break point is an 85" TV, $8000 in BestBuy today.

After the Superbowl in two weeks time ( the traditional end of the TV buying season in the US) prices will come down again, and newer bigger models might come out.

Watch this space...

You cannot put all projector lamps in the same category. Check this for example:

http://www.epson.co.uk/products/projectors/home-cinema/eh-ls10500

Lifespan of 30000 hours with minimal warm-up and cool-down time.

I still don't understand why should a projector be switched on and off so many times. Does that happen with the TV too? My projector is on the ceiling and my boy doesn't have an easy access to the remote.

BB he wants a big TV ideally thats fine - he hasnt had much PJ experience to know if its for him or not - TV is a given purchase

Plus he lives in Texas if he wants to do a lot of bright sunlight daytime viewing a TV will be better for sure.

If he wants a more cinemtic and special movie experience then the PJ is the way to go - depends on what you want out of the product really. Thats why people have both - I didnt understand that before - I do now

Weighing up the options, that's all. I have a windowless media room, but er indoors would cut my Jacobs off if I suggested turning it into a coal mine. Added to which, given the choice between $20k plus on a mid range 4K PJ and screen vs. $10k on a 100 inch TV and $10k towards a swimming pool, I know which she'll pick.

All a bit moot for the foreseeable anyway because I've been out of work for 12 months now....

Something like the Sony 675 - $15k plus tax @ = 8.25% = $16, 238, plus a decent 4k AT screen, $2k plus tax = $2165, plus a projector ceiling mounting plus a good 30 or 40 ft HDMI cable. Doesn't leave much out of $20k.

Benefit 4k be there for sure. Content going take time get most out of the format.
