I'm highly tempted to pick up a Hegel H390 to see if it's as good as the reviews and how it performs in my living room.

I've heard Hegel & Amphion combos at various shows which have been deeply impressive. I'm not sure if the synergy with my own speakers (Graham Audio LS6/f) would be quite as good, although I do know of someone else with exactly this combo, who rates it very highly.

Not sure if it's going to have quite the same magic as my current valve setup though... still pondering.

I have a Gato Dia 250S incoming. One of these (link below)...

If it sounds half as good as it looks, it's going to be amazing!

I'm thinking that my LS6/f's might like a 250W kick up them.

Having accidentally on purpose gone for the big bro to this and bought the Gato DIA 400S NPM, which is in a word utterly - fabulous!

I've now arranged a suitably competent set of speakers to partner this which I'll be collecting in the next couple of weeks. Not to take anything from my Graham's but I've coveted the hi-end B&W series for ages. So here we go. Exciting.

Incoming are a mint set of B&W 804 Diamond V2 speakers.

Here's my next purchase. I've been doing a lot of headphone listening lately.

Quite decent by all accounts....

Today, however, I seem to have purchased a Cyrus CD8, with an intermittent disc reading fault, for the princely sum of £100.

CD player arrived. Sadly wouldn’t read a single one of 30 or so I tried to play. Will grab a disc cleaner tomorrow, but I fear it’s going to have to go back. Seller said it sometimes doesn’t play discs, definitely not that it’s pretty definitely not working. Shame, was looking forward to hearing a Cyrus player.

The last item I bought was an Audiolab M-Dac+ soon after launch so about 9yrs ago. My old Mac Mini needs replacing with an M4 version, just not sure when I'll be able to afford one.

Too bad: Might have been a great deal, but you were smart to get a returnable one.

😁😁😁

I’ve got everything setup & I’m enjoying it a lot. I can’t say it sounds a whole lot different from the Rega RP6, maybe slightly less noise. Who cares: it looks great & I saved up because I wanted one 😎

I will need a new plinth to match either the unit or the speakers. A nice treat & maybe take it to a dealer for a proper setup, too.

Only down side is the green cable on the RP6 broke off when swapping the cartridge. So now I need to get it repaired before I can sell it on.

Next step will have you falling into the LP12 "upgrade" trap. 🙂

It’s definitely a minefield. I spent a while trying to make sure I got something that I probably only need to think about the cartridge. There’s things like tone arm or subchasis that I’m sure can be bettered. But not really interested in all that. Did make sure I got the latest bearing & power supply though, as I think those might have turned my head in the future.
