Just done a quick web search and lots of people are saying these are not compatible with Vista or Windows 7, surely not. Is anyone using one of these with that operating system

Thanks Chebby, saw that but I really like the idea of Raid Mirrored copying so will need two bays. Have read the specs for the WD, doesnot appear on paper to support WIndows 7, however the slightly more expensive buffalo does.

Trouble is you canonly get them across the internet I would prefer to buy locally if possible.

The last thread where someone tried to have a go at Amazon was swamped with good experiences. I have had no bother with Amazon, but be careful with other sellers who use Amazon as a hosting site. Check their feedback before you buy.

It seems very unlikely that they are not compatible with the two most common operating systems in the world. My WD USB hard drive has worked fine with XP and now W7.

I had a Buffalo (not your model) because it had better reviews than the WD equivalents on Amazon. I am sure it is just your luck if either is going to be easy to set up and reliable or not.
