What would I use an Analogue to Digital (ADC) convertor for?

Hi,

I picked up this small DAC at a boot fair - well I thought it was a DAC but didn't look closely enough and it's actually an Analogue to Digital convertor (audio leads in, COAX or optical out).

What would one use this for? Could I plug my turntable into it, and feed an optical lead to a Macbook to record vinyl?

Thanks

You couldn't plug a turntable directly into it unless it clearly states it's got a built-in phono stage, or unless your turntable has a phono stage built in. But you could go via an amp which has a phono stage, or use an outboard phono stage.

Either way you're fundamentally right, it's for recording audio to a computer.

You'd need to check whether your MacBook has an optical digital input: not all of them did, and the more modern ones have dropped the optical digital out, too.

I guess I could play my hi res through it? Mini jack to audio leads to optical or co ax to dac? I guess doing this would nullify the hi res players dac?
