Hi

Was looking for some advice.I am currently looking to buy a new turntable and was wondering which to buy?.

I Have roughly £1000 to spend and originally was going to get the Roksan set-up.Now I see that the Rega was an award winner this year and is considerably cheaper.Am now confused (doesnt take much) and now need a bit of expert advice.By the way have got Roksan Kandy 111 Bi-amp setup.

Thanks

John

What about the Clearaudio emotion with a good cartridge? I heard one with one of their own cartridges and was impressed. Top build quality, too.

i would still have a listen to the Pro-Ject 2 Xperience
SuperPack with the Ortofon MC Rondo Red cart.

Very nice.

A Rega P3-24 at £398 is indeed considerably cheaper and with a good basic cartridge like an AT95E you would save a lot.

However the P3-24 really deserves to be made the most of. With your budget I would strongly suggest getting the optional Rega TT-PSU (£148) and ask your Rega dealer to order their tungsten counterweight. (About £55)

This brings the total to around £600.

This still leaves enough for a good cartridge and phono-stage. (Rega's own Fono MM or Fono MC phono stages - at £165 and £225 respectively - are very good and have matching cases to the TT-PSU)

Alas I would not recommend their Bias 2 cartridge (from personal experience) but the Elys 2 is very capable and can be ordered factory fitted and aligned on the P3-24 and costs £100. The Goldring 1042 MM cartridge is a superb performer on Rega arms and will still fit within your £1000 overall budget just nicely to complete the package.

I could enthusiastically recommend the Ortofon 2M Blue MM cartridge but it has been a little over-recommended recently. Mostly by me :)

For a brighter more forward sound and peerless tracking the Audio Technica AT440MLa MM is another excellent choice for £95 - £125 depending on where/when you buy it.

Thanks for that. So the Rega would be the one to go for with additional psu and add ons?

Am really open to any suggestions cos as you probably know it is somewhat of a minefield out there for us novices!!

Thanks once again

Rega dealers should do an all in package, deck, cartridge and power supply, check out the rega website to see the different colours.
