I have recently upgraded my surround sound receiver from a Yamaha RXV 359 to a Sony STR DH810.

I am still running the Yamaha speakers that came with the Yamaha Receiver at the moment and have to admit that difference in sound quality surprised me with just switching the Receivers.

I have already upgraded the Speaker wiring with QED's Silver Anniversary XT all round and the sub co-ax again with a QED so now looking at changing the speaker package.

Will I notice a big difference and what would you recommend for the Sony STR?

I have a budget of around £300.

The Boston acoustic xs seem to be a popular choice with that AVR, although I have heard it personally, they also get good reviews.

I think Richer Sounds still have a few Q Acoustics 1010i 5.1 speakers left at £199.95.

Excellent package and award winners at £500, so if you could get some at £200, they would be a fantastic bargain and well within budget.

I have a set of CA Minx 215's with an 810 that are currently wrapped up for Christmas. I have heard both items individually but not together yet. Expectations are that they should be good although I can exchange them if not to my taste. Fingers crossed.

Still reading up and get mixed ideas over what speaker choice is better.

I can afford either the Q Acoustics 1010i or Boston Acoustics XS but some feel the Bostons are better, others the Q Acoustics based on them being a bargain at the moment.

Just to add it's for a smallish Living Room approx 4m x 5m and is used mainly for Sky, PS3 and Xbox360. Very rarely do I listen to music and if I do it's only thru a music channel on Sky.

Dunno if that makes a massive difference or not.

Just spoke to the other half and she has agreed to put some cash to the pot for speaker setup so can now stretch to 500.

That gives me the Q Acoutics 2000 5.1 which won the 2010 award.

Any others I should consider?

My vote would be for the Q Acoustics 2000 package, but if you wanted something less imposing and a little more stylish, then either the Bostons or the Cambridge Audio Minx S215.

Personally I like the look of the S215's which are £499.95 at Richer Sounds
