I've got a fairly old Hi-Fi System, but I believe a good one, but I have some spare cash - up to £1,000 and I would love to know what peoples opinion is, as to what I can spend this money on to get the largest improvement on sound quality?

Amp - Denon AVC-A11SR
Speakers - PMC-FB1
Turntable - Rega Planar 3 (old RB200 arm) with Audio Technica VM540 Cartridge
Arcam CD93
WiiPro - Streamer

Amp - this is a powerhouse of a Tuner with a 'Pure Direct' mode for Stereo, but how does this compare to newer dedicated Stereo Amp's in the £1,000 bracket?
Speakers - Great speakers when I bought them, but are newer speakers THAT much better to warrant swapping?
Turntable - Old RB200 arm is an antique now, is it worth upgrading?
CD - I still have 1,000's of CD's and this is still used loads, but even if I did upgrade, what would I even upgrade too these days?

I'm really curious to hear your opinions.

Thanks you

For 1k your better off taking the other half on a lovely holiday if the money is burning a hole

Apart from the room (Which makes the biggest difference), the speakers give the biggest difference, the other items improvement is small in comparison.

Try moving the speakers first to see if you can get a better sound, and also look into removing some of the sound reflections in the room.

Buy a better cart that suits that tonearm. Nothing wrong with the old Acos tonearms.
I have always had reservations about using AV equipment in a stereo set-up but if it works for you.....
The phono preamp in question is of debatable quality.
Not even sure what it is so doubtful it's any good if fitted as an afterthought inan AV receiver therefore I would replace with a decent integrated amplifier.
