I thought at first I liked most types of music. Then thought again, and really I ain't a fan of that "easy pop"/euro pop, garage, RnB (today's sauce anyway), death metal et al, industrial, goth

Quite a fan of alternative/indie, jazz, "real" opera, electronica, hip-hop/trip-hop, "chanson" (like Brassens, Brel, Gainsbourg even... sorry very French here), etc.

jimdonnelly:I struggle with Reggae - I keep trying but I just don't get it.

I'm with you on this Jim, can sometimes appreciate the musicianship but not a fan.

And as for Ska....yergh!

Thought I liked jazz but really not sure now. Prog jazz really is absolute .................(fill in own expletive). Talk about being up your own ....and the supposed connossieurs ! I really don't know what to make of it all.

What's wrong with melody and a tune ?

Agreed, I just find it repetitive and dull, far more so than most dance music I have to say.

jerryyeatman:Oasis. Will Young.

So what is it about Will Young that you don't like? If you'd said any other reality show winner I'd have agreed (although Girls Aloud are actually being given some half-decent songs these day), but personally speaking Will Young is the only one of the Pop Idol/X Factor ilk to have emerged with any kind of credibility, not to mention a career.

Oh and Oasis? Derivative rubbish.

British bland rubbish - Keane, The Feeling, Scouting For Girls

American skatey rubbish - Fall Out Boy, Blink 182 etc

Anything by Celine Dion

The voice.ÿI find it really grating and ever so wet.ÿ

Wet? I can understand grating, a little, although different springs to mind, but wet? Not in a month of Sundays, Gareth Gates was wet, a weak voice, over-amplified, Will Young has genuine power in his vocals.ÿ

I'm not a huge fan of much British music these days, none of them seem to be doing anything genuinely different, not that gets into the charts anyway, and they don't last, every week you hear Radio 1 raving about the next big thing and they have a couple of singles successes, one album and then a year later nobody remembers them, where's the staying power of today's bands?

Well, I dont necessarily agree with you there lhc - I think theres some good british music, what I really meant was "that sector of the british music industry output that is bland and samey" (including those 3 i mentioned and many others no doubt). If you think about Foals, Friendly Fires and that kind of thing, I theres hope for the British contingent yet!

Yeah, that's why I said "much British music", I have to admit I'm quite enjoying Elbow at the moment, but as this is a music we don't like thread I didn't mention it, apols.ÿ

I haven't heard them I'm afraid, I don't really go looking for music, so I only hear what gets broadcast on t'radio and as most of it isn't to my liking I don't tend to look in that general direction. I get more inspiration from Later... with Jools Holland really, which is where I heard Eli "Paperboy" Reed (not British), although sadly his current album is one of the worst vinyl pressings I've come across in a long time, which is annoying.
