what types (keep it general would be an idea so as not to offend!) of music dont you like?

i have never been a fan of folk music personally but then not listened to much, as i dont like it...oops round and round that argument we go...

Anyone that hails from the Brit School (whatever the hell that is).

I'm not that big a fan of today's bands anyway, Elbow are the only ones that have caught my attention.

nads:not listened to any music i dont like.

Then how do you know you don't like it?

I don't like any R&B although I do like Hip Hop. Any kind of ballads/easy listening are out (Westlife, Celine Dion, etc). Manufactured pop and Euro house is just plain offensive.

hate punk music if you can call it music
also dance or trance just boom boom synth so called music.

This kind of stuff !!! . You know the type

Music for people who don't like music, eg boy bands/manufactured, xfactor type where people are told by a panel thatit's the next big thing until next years series!

Generally, I don't like the music I don't like. Difficult to categorise beyind that without getting into specifics. There's others where I just can't stand the artist.

Folk? I like a bit of that, especially celtic stuff. Try the Cheiftains - the black veil's pretty good. Or try Altan, The Iron Horse, Battlefield Band. There are loads.

Some american folk is OK too. The soundtrack to "O Brother, where art thou" isn't bad.

Cannot bear operetta, and what is currently referred to as RnB but has nothing to do with Rythm'n'Blues as I understand it which means Ray Charles, Blues Brothers etc, etc and not overpaid Divas who try to be 'operatic' while still being down with the kids. I am not so fond of Grand Opera either, but i accept it as a form of high art. My particular spleen, however, is reserved for club dance music which places a backing track generated by computer with occasional stabs of real records in a mix of noise lasting 45 minutes or more. ÿIf you like the refrain to a Kate Bush or James Brown single - why not play the whole thing? ÿGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRumpy old music lover.

I think Nads might mean he has liked every form of music he has ever heard including Inuit throat singing.

Never listened to any so i can comment.

I have heard lots of rubbish but i dont know what it was as i had no desire to listen to it.

these manufactured bands i cant say that i have listen to them. I may have heard them as background noise but i could not say who or what it was.

99% of house, drum and bass, techno, hip-hop, new r&b, death metal (sorry Chris), boy/girl band pop, freeform jazz impov and opera.

100% of Lou Reed - Metal Machine Music.

Damn, he's found a loophole. Apart from the Sex Pistols, what else have the Romans done for us. Mr Everard, time to remove yourself from the fence and stop being Agent Provocatuer (not the lingerie). What music don't you like?

Think I can honestly say I will give anything a listen. What music don't I like? Other people's, played at a level where it becomes annoying.

In the open-plan office here we tend to to have at least three sets of music from adjoining magazines going on at all times, and it really can drive you to distraction.

Mind you, not sure whether that's more annoying than everyone working with headphones on, so every time a phone rings or you want to say something to someone it involves a pantomime of semaphoring to get their attention.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned Country & Western. D.I.V.O.R.C.E immediately springs to mind.

I remember a quote from Ivor Tiefenbrun where he suggested that the best way to evaluate a HIFI was to listen to a selection of music you did not usually listen to, as this made you evaluate the system without being distracted by your favourite sounds. He then went on to say there was merit in all forms of music, except of course Country and Western.

Apologies for the inexact quotation, I dont have the original source.

Trouble is, in the US in particular, you exclude a large part of your potential market if you alienate the country fans.

True, but can you imagine a Country & Western fan with a Linn Sondek?
