what is your favourite operating system

over the last 30 year or so i have most of the windows family ( think all now ) from 1994 Windows 3.1 ( but did have the XT system before that and several non Windows including OS1 ) so all of them the ones i thought was very important to the Computer industry are Windows 95 able to use a CD for recording purposes and Windows 98SE because it was the first system to be able to record on a DVD . The worse without doubt was ME nicknamed the Disease. . Vista terrible system indeed. .
Not a fan of either windows 10 and Windows 11 i find very odd but fast ( unlike windows 10 . Being a reseller back in the day. I have had ( MACS too did not like them ) i have had over 200 Computers plus Amstrad PCWs too BBC Dragon.
What made me angry was Microsoft promising that one they produced would be the very last Windows ever. Think that was either Vista or Windows 8/7 Yet they told a fib . They keep offering a new system every couple of years ( note windows 10 will not be supported after this year folks.
To me it is simply a way of making money as there is no reason why in this day we even need a operating system at all ( the Internet ) Now greed has set in . Com e on guys when is the last operating system ever will it be Windows 30 . Oh yes the new one is not windows 12 they have something up there sleeve here ,for us ( more making money )

MacOS for me since 2013 after tiring of windows errors and lock ups. I suspect, that current iterations are significantly better but I am now too invested to switch... im not a devotee, however, I use an Android phone!

Windows 10 is working for me, not perfect but, it is stable and most of the sending information to Microsoft and other undesirable behaviour, can be stopped.

From time to time I think about moving to Linux but, the steep learning curve puts me off.

After about 15 or more years with MacOS and whatever my iPad runs on, I’d almost forgotten there even was an operating system! The days of Windows, with regular and tortuous updates, plus costly virus programs to instal and run, seem very distant.

I have 16GB ram and fast SSD storage. My PC is always fast but, more memory intensive programs will certainly benefit from more.

HP Spectre 8GB ram running W11 (Professional) and is only really limited by internet speed (cloud storage). Plenty fast enough for Office / Outlook etc. The 1Gb up / down that Spain has to offer is a Godsend.

Still happy after all these decades, currently with three Windows versions: Win 7 on an Intel NUC, Win 11 on a second Intel NUC, and Win 10 on a Surface Pro. All professional versions, and are running, among many other applications, my favorite music organizer and player, MusicBee, which runs only on Windows.

It’s wild to think about how much Windows has evolved over the years! I’ve had my share of good and bad experiences too. Windows ME was definitely a rough patch, and Vista wasn’t much better. I had a similar reaction to Windows 10 and 11 – they’re quick but have their quirks.

A while ago, I had to reset my PC and found a useful guide here: https://operatingsystems.info/how-to-factory-reset-pc-windows-11/ . It helped me get a fresh start and clear up some of those annoying issues. It’s like hitting the reset button and making everything run a bit smoother. With all the changes, sometimes a fresh setup is the best way to go!

Not a huge fan of Windows 11 but going back to an older version would not be a choice nor an option. I find the integration between Windows and my Android devices very useful. Being able to share files directly to my phone or tablet is great.

Also being able to integrate Windows with Linux using WSL is a game changer from my work point of view.

For me, I discarded Windows OS for the populous, and built my PCs around the Windows NT kernel which was much more stable. It's great Microsoft, since the Windows 7 have been based on the NT kernel.
I don't mind Windows 11, I have seen beta previews of Windows 12 and meh, some changes here some changes there, same all, same all.

I've tried various Linux distributions, Debian, Red Hat, Ubuntu, Mint and various others. They've come a long way, some of the new stuff, mimic Windows very well. I might switch, if Microsoft continues to open up the back door to government entities, things have increasingly become Orwellian and what was once considered as free speech, may now be listed as a hate crime. The Thought Police will be something the future generation would need to worry about. Anyway I digress

MacOS is nothing more than heavily modified Unix (mainframe), it has traction with Apple fans, it looks a little dated with those ghastly traffic lights. I'm pretty much rooted in the x86, might switch Arm based Snapdragon if they can transfer the performance on the laptop to the desktop.

I have 64GB DDR5 but that's an overkill. 32GB is all you ever need.

I wanted to fill all four slots with LED ram sticks. I initially got two 16GB ram sticks and I was hoping to purchase the two dummy sticks with just the LED for aesthetic purposes but Corsair don't do this for DDR5 only DDR4.
The two empty slots didn't agree with my eyes, so i got another two the same.

EDIT, thought a little more about this and, done a little research. Probably best to wait for AMD to release AM6, then build with new motherboard, RAM and CPU. That would allow for a CPU upgrade after 3 or 4 years on the same motherboard, as I did with my present setup. One of the benefits of going AMD rather than Intel.

I currently run 3 HPs s/h 2 have the 32gig memory and 1 TB and 225 SSD the other 16meg 500 SSD Quad porcessors Windows 11 a Tower 8 gig 500 HDD Dell running windows 10 . (yes it is that old) a Dell Laptop Windows 10 very slowww 8 gig and 500 gig a couple of Tablets one is a Samsung . But find tablets not really good , slow and too small for my big fingers

On the other hand, speaking up for "the Blue camp"... Microsoft still supports my 2 Win 7 installs. One of my Intel NUCs still gets updates, though mostly only security updates, including supporting my Microsoft Essentials shortcut on the taskbar that still turns green consistently after all these post-7 years.

Even more remarkably, a few months ago my very-experienced nephew seriously and mysteriously messed up my sort-of-vintage Toshiba Portege, using mostly only its built-in cd drive and MusicBee to rip CDs. (It's a networked laptop I keep mostly for guests' occasional needs.) We eventually had to try re-installing Windows 7 to revive it! Not only did the original Win 7 software disk revive the Toshiba (remember bundled OS discs?), but Windows Update alerted us that something like 150 Win 7 updates were due!! It took a couple of days or so, but we eventually arrived at the fully-updated state. Remarkable: thank you, Microsoft...
