I think they are fun to read, it's the same protagonist every time who are easily wound up.

One is from another world and the other is the part of a mobile phone.

Hilarious, I say we should have more!

let them continue. at worst they can be informative. at best hilarious,

we are all in the same sandpit, noones got clean hands. Once the

mods decide enoughs enough they lock it. Job done.

Back on track please, the aim is to have a consensus as to what the forum wants with such debates. I take it, so far, from the various posts that there a few who want the status quo and to let such debates rage on, as they are fun, for some of the time. So be it.

Can I suggest we actually make our views clear?

I want cable debates to be moved to a separate part of the forum and for the status quo to continue.

Well... hmm... yes and no (pledge broken already).

The forum threads on all such subjects also serve as a searchable reference library/archive for everyone including non members (and even google searchers).

Does not reflect well.

I think they should continue. a lot of the time cable debates are started by new members who maybe arnt aware or not savvy enough to search through old threads to find the answer to their question. If cable debates were removed or instantly locked it would seem very unhelpfull and unfriendly to new members.

Although saying that! Their probably sorry they asked after the first two pages

chebby. I reads 100s and 100s of posts/threads getting up to speed. the cable debates are not the only posts that dont show the forum or hi-fi enthusiasts in a good light. However the good outweighs the bad by miles.

And its the same in any forum. I am part of a 12 man mod team on a large fishing forum with 1000s of active members. we let stuff run as long as possible too. its what the majority want. regular posters and the more opinionated alike. The only stuff we step on quick is . Threats. (swearing/violence etc) bullying and hounding of an individual.

My expereince on here is that it has been excellent. But like most forums. You have to work out who knows the info you want. Who jus tthinks they do. Who has a broad expereince, and who just loves thier own kit. its exactly the same in fishing.

personally I think there are already WAY to many subforums on a forum with this amount of regular posters.

the record spot:Temporary ban from the hi-fi sub-forum. E-mails to the offending parties, etc.

Must admit though, I can see this thread getting locked in the same way the other two did: "you should respect my opinion", "you don't know what you're talking about", "that's nothing, you should try a Dansette"...and so on.

Yes I agree. EVERYONE who even mentions cables and suchlike should get automatically banned

Actually, that wasn't what I said, nor intended. To be clear, I think the topic should be banned from the HiFi sub forum. Moderation is an issue for the site owners however. Their call.

I've read several of the cable threads. First of all with interest, then amusement, consternation, and eventually despair. I've always opted to refrain from joining the fray, mainly because everyone is in full attack mode by the time I happen accross a cable thread and all the useful debate has ended.

However I think that the level of debate just reinforces that these are areas of discussion with a lot of variety of opinion and a wide range of objective and subjective factors to debate and arguably these are the ones that need and naturally prompt the most discussion. Most people can be trusted to voice their opinions and convey their knowledge (or in some cases "knowledge") responsibly and respectfully and they tend to vacate the discussion when it all goes south. I think it's pretty obvious to most posters that by page 3 or 4 the useful contributions have generally ended and the mud-slinging has started.

So I say continue broadly as is, but with tighter scrutiny and regulation of any posters who stray into agressiveness or offence.

Incidentally idc, I know this was done out of the best of intentions, and hence I have given a sensible response. However if this thread doesn't somehow end up going horribly wrong and ending up in a fight about whether or not cables make a difference, then I'll be astonished!

Edit - OK amazing, in the time it took me to write the above, it's turned into a slanging match!!! Sad.
