What is the best sounding, clear, good for melodies, hearing instruments, different voices, tones, subtleties etc, high end hi fi, not the most powerfully loud one. Thanks

True Blue:Go and listen in an audio store and decide what YOU like

Exactly it's all about personal taste, musical taste. There's lots of expensive 'hi end' hifi out there, but some of the inexpensive gear sounds great.

Ok, what's the best car in the world! - that gives great mileage, super horsepower, super sounding, great rims, great interiors....?!?!

MBL 6010 D pre amp and 9008 A monoblocks are pretty high end

The monoblocks alone are £41k to buy for a pair

Or is that not high end enough for you?

Focal Grand Utopia EM are supposed to sound pretty good running off Krell's flagship monoblocks . I've seen them once but didn't get a chance to have a listen.

Hi End or High Priced? High priced doesn't always been best sounding. That's the great misconception. Personally and just my opinion but I heard a lot of so called hi end stuff with hi end prices and settled on a system that was a 1/3 price and sounds a lot lot better to my ears. But of course, spend a fortune and have a load of fancy boxes and cables and you have a great feeling inside and something to show off in your lounge...it may not sound great but you sure look cool!

Most would argue that the aim of manufacturers is to reproduce the original performance as accurately as possible, but my feeling would be that above a certain price point, that would make everything sound the same, as the best reproduction would've been reached with nowhere to go. In reality, it all sounds different. As already mentioned, hear for yourself and see what you think is the best high end hi-fi.

After own some highly regarded amps including ASR Emitter II exclusive and Vitus, I have to say the Mastersound Evolution 845 is the most "REAL" sounding amp I have ever heard, everything sound so real......spooky!

The 'superstructure' looks like an architect's model of a new shopping mall in somewhere like Dubai.

Needs populating with some skinny little plastic people and those little architect's 'lollipop' trees.

If I had 50 Baht for every time you've said that since you joined the Forums, TM...

my friends dad has loads of stuff that is unreal prices he payed 16.5k for 2 crossovers for hes speakers which i think are linns top ones he has he say near 85k setup and he says he is no where near the big boys. where if i had 6k so spend on a new setup i would consider to to me high end stuff. i think it is getting the best from your budget without spending more than your means and then enjoying the setup.

I still think it looks like something from a 50's sci-fi movie. I can't imagine you'd accommodate one of those in your front room chebby.

I am not so keen on the look either but then I heard the sound....it was like falling in love with music all over again

The best system I have ever heard is Focal Grande Utopia + Halcro monoblocks/pre and CDP.

With such that system (electronics costs ~100k, new Grande Utopia III ~the same) taste of music doesn't matters. Anything will sound incredible!

I once listened to the Audio Note Ongaku driving a pair of Snell speakers (can't remember which ones). Magical sound. Never heard anything to better it since.

Oddly enough, that is what I just thougt. I was a show near heathrow in the nineties. These puny watts making amazing noises. It's to far back to recall the intricacies but I recall being spellbound.

Wasn't that the brand where transformers where hand-wound by 90 year old virgins, then tested by a naked bloke on a snow covered mountain top?
