WHAT HIFI TESTING PROCESS & B&W 606 s2 Review

Page 2 - Seeking answers? Join the What HiFi community: the world's leading independent guide to buying and owning hi-fi and home entertainment products.
Bear in mind that WHAT HI-FI testing rooms are well professionally & acoustically treated unlike listening in an ordinary living room in a house
But that’s because they aren’t working in a house, and listening in an office space or converted film studio would be a non-starter. The intention is to provide a suitable environment, not set an unreachably high standard.

Great point. The room size, shape ad treatment have a huge effect on the speaker's sound and many who have great systems spend next to no money and time on this aspect too.

For most people, it's a bit of trial and error and you don't need to invest huge sums of cash and time to find the best compromise and make a decent improvement. But if you have invested a lot of time and money the room needs more consideration to get the best out of your system.

Anyway, I've got a high-end set-up but I am having fun during/since lockdown building a DIY, low-cost system and seeing how darn good low-cost speaker drivers and digital amps and streaming boards bought online can be. It's amazing what you can build with very little cost if you put in the time and have the interest. All the building blocks to make active, app-controlled, whole house multiroom are available for next to nothing online now. Fun times for music lovers and those that like to build cool stuff on a budget too!
