Hi, What floorstanders would you suggest I audtion for my current setup up to £800,I thought about B&W 684, MA RS6, and MS Mezzo 6 I'm looking for a allrounder with excellent vocals and atmosphere and bass. On a budget I thought of AS Neo 3 and MS 916i.

Thanks in advance.

I know that B&W pairs very nicely with NAD. I have a 317 integrated with DM602's and the match is perfect. Not sure about the floorstanders, although I have a pair of CM7's connected to the new 15 series Rotel gear.

Well lets put things into context for 220.00 you can purchase a pair of brand new Acoustic Energy Neo 3's. When I asked if the forum thought it was worth changing these for MA RS6's, the answer was quite a unanimous no, therefore on a budget, these can't be beaten really.

Q Acoustics 1050i. All you want for £350, widely available for less than £300. Hi Fi World speaker (or product, can't quite recall) of the year last year.

If you like an easy going listening for hours without getting tired, a natural sound, i think Spendor or Dynaudio could do well for you.

Have to be ex-demo or used with a very good price with that budget.

Hi Fi newbie how would you describe the sound of the neo 3 how do the vocals and the bass sound.

IMO the Neo 3's are superb value for money and will work very well with your NAD set-up. TYhe bass is brilliant; deep and plenty of punch, smooth and detailed midrange and the treble is very good as well, not bright at all

However with your budget I would also very much consider the M/A RS6's as they can be bought for c£450 currently and also look at the B&W 684's.

The Mezzo 6's are very good in the right system as well but having demo'd them with NAD and Arcam gear, IMO the synergy wasnt there as much as it was with the M/A and B&W speakers.

What would be handy to know is what music do you listen to mainly and do you listn to music loud a lot or at a moderate level etc...

The only reason I ask is that both the M/A RS6's and B&W 684's are very good at low levels but they really come alive when pushed; more so when bi-amped.

I listern to all types of music at 8 to 9 oclock volume setting not to loud but every once in a while when the neighbours are out i turn it up but thats not often.(rare grooves, soul hip hop, reggae,r n b and pop.

Hi Gtncj

You should also consider the new Monitor Audio Silver RX6 at £750 (standard finish) or £900 (gloss black/white). The original RS6's were very good however the new RX6's are significantly better. Their packaging, build, fit, finish, appearence and performance is excellent. Superb VFM.

Btw, they work well with NAD.

I would also wait for RX6 reviews or demo them. They sound like they are Gold series at Silver series price.

Well...since I have the same amp as you, I would describe the bass as deep, punchy and detailed, midrange and vocals are very open. It is a very lively sound without any harshness and is really enjoyable in my opinion anyway.

Hi Gtncj

If you want to keep to a budget, try the RS8's you mention. This has always been a good speaker, and with them being phased out at the moment they're available for almost half price. A t this price they'll be extremely hard to beat. At the £800 mark, I'd be recommending a standmount, the ATC SCM11's rather than a floorstander as they're great all rounders. My only concern would be the NAD's ability to drive them properly, even though their specs say otherwise. Best thing to do is audition with your own amplifier to see how you get on.

rick, how do the rx6's compare to the atc11's? wich is the better of the two? my bet is the rx6's may take the atc11's crown of best speaker at the £1000 price range in this years awards.

What's the view on the Dali Ikon 6s? I'm running a pair in the bedroom and they're lovely.

Powered by some Meridian kit, so not exactly slumming it! Sweet sound. Can certainly hear the family resemblance to the Helicons. You can get a new pair for £650 now, which should appeal!

I spent £800 on my secondhand ProAc Studio 140's and I love 'em. Before getting them I listened to the MA RS8's and whilst I liked their forward sound, it was a bit too unnatural. The ProAc's were a big leap in quality at good price secondhand.

Big fan of second hand.

This the way to go for getting way more bang for your buck. My Dali Helicons, cost less than 50% of the RRP which is a massive boon and they're mint. Must be the way forward. Of course, it's harder work, you have to track them down, collect them (I never get second hand stuff delivered) and you have no warranty. So you earn the mark-down in price, but then they should hold their value. When can you usually say that about consumer electronics?!

Thanks guys, for the replys I can't get a demo of the neo 3 and it may be a side step considering I have a pair of MS 914i and can get a pair of MS 916i for £300, It looks like it may be the MA RS6. I Will wait for the WHF reviews of the new MA then go for a listern.
