If you have seen my earlier posts regarding Onkyo 875 overheating and packing up I have been advised by Onkyo that I need external amps to drive B&W 683,684 & 685 speakers for Onkyo 875. Which amp should I buy?

Ouch.

That must hurt, are your ears still ringing?

But seriously, while I can't confess to being as up to date as many of the people here, I seem to remember that there's a Rotel / B&W synergy thing. Some of the Rotel amps are pretty meaty too. I used a 200w/rms8ohm Rotel 991 power amp for a while and the sound isn't massively detailed but it is expansive and fast given it's size and price and has bags of headroom.

Alternatively you could just turn the volume down.

Are you looking for a single multi-channel power amp, or a bunch of 2 channel ones?

Eh? Why? Surely this is what the 875 is designed to do?

I think he's driving the amp at near maximum level, and it's struggling to cope.

I recommend 7 power amps, each one bridged.

Should be very loud and look cool.

Excatly what I would have thought...This is what Onkyo said...

Dear Chris,
thank you very much for your message and your interest in ONKYO products.
You have reached the support/help desk for ONKYO Europe.
Thank you for your detail information.
We studys the datas and we think that this speakers are not really fitting
to the amplifier.
For regarding to our opinion you would need a more powerful amplifier to
this speakers also the impedance curve seem to be very critical ( 8-3 ohm)
,also this asking for a quiet powerful amplifier.
So in connection with the TX-SR 875 we recommend to use external
amplifiers.

We hope to have given you appropriate help and information and would very
much appreciate your decision for ONKYO products now and in the future.

MfG / Sincere Regards

I was hoping someone would give me a few hifi url's on amps rather than medical or psycological advice...I know I am beyond help so let's save the Onkyo...

What is the difference between single or multi channel? I was just looking for a loud hifi...

Onkyo say the speakers are demanding too much power from the amp...!!!

a single(mono)amplifys/drives one channel/speaker, where as a multi channel power amp (usually 7 channel) will amplify/drive all the channels/speakers

I'm still trying to suss out their less than perfect english!

Anyways; as other folks have said above; get yourself some monoblocks OR listen at quieter volumes!

It really sounds like your pushing the Onk far too hard!

Don't say that...I dream of higher volumes...I want 'Glastonbury'in my lounge...
Their english is perfect...your german is deficient.
Surely this is just what the Onk was designed to do???

If the Onkyo was designed to do Glastonbury levels, you would have seen them at the venue.

Get yourself some meaty monoblocks, or at the very least a stereo power amplifier for the front channels. Rotel has already been mentioned, allow me to add the Musical Fidelity M6PRX into the mix.

I think you should go for a Peavey CS 4080HZ[/b] PA Amp:

2040 Watts RMS per channel into 4 Ohms.

1250 Watts RMS per channel into 8 Ohms.

They sound nice too, plus they'll run all day at that power.
