don't know if it would be my ultimate hifi system as there are much better components that cost muchmore , but based on my limited budget, this is what I am hoping to have by year end and am hoping that this system will be a huge upgrade to what I already own:

Musical Fidelity A5 integrated (have recently connected one of these to my current main system and was a huge difference)

IMF TLS 80 4-way transmission speakers (owned a pair for several years)

Acoustic Precision Eikos cdp as modded /designed by Tom Evans (never seen or heard one, but am going by what I have read ... is a Pioneer PD-904 heavily modified ... Tom stated that this is much better than the old Linn Sondek CD-12)

so, hopefully all 3 components work well together?

...

I don't sell any of my older gear, so will upgrade 1 item at a time and see what works well, and keep what's left as another system for the 2nd lounge

Yeah but all this really expensive stuff is a waste of money as per the thread 2 weeks ago.

Oh yes, in that case I'd like a Cambridge Audio 340c and some Gale monitors.

lol joel.

blu transport for my dac.

mcintosh pre and 2x mono amps.

red art deco 20 signature speakers.

and a huge room to put it in.

If we are dreaming what is wrong with dreaming of high end gear?

For me, I would love the type of property that would allow me to have a dedicated 'Home Cinema Room'. For this a projector and massive screen is a must. In here I would like to showcase the JVC DLA-HD350.

Dream on!!!!!!!!!!

For me enough Mcintosh amps to sink the Titanic (erm' again!) + matching CD player / Tuner and AV Processor! most gorgeous hifi in the world IMHO

The only thing I would like to add is a Weiss DAC...

I would possibly change my Netbook for a Mac Mini but its not that high on my priorities at the mo

How strange - I was out walking the dogs over the fields this afternoon. It was a lovely sunny day and all was well with the world. I started to think ....I wonder what my ultimate Av and music system would be.

So I'm not totally aware of everything that is out there but I think I would go for the following:-

Kef Reference 7.2 speakers (207/2 fronts, 204/2c centre, 4 x 206/2DS rears and 2 x 209 subwoofers)

Disc Player: Marantz UD9004

Projector: JVC DLA-HD950 (& matching electric screen)

Lumagen Radiance XE Video Processor

AV Amp: Anthem Statement D2v/P5 (to drive 204/2c, 206/2DS & 209 subwoofers)

Stereo Amp: (To drive KEF 207/2's) - I'm struggling here.Open to suggestions

Mmmm wonder what that lot would cost?

Very close to my ideal set up Dave. A P2 would do the job on the front speakers but looking at the Pathos amps ( mentioned at the begining of the thread ) they would have to be worth a shot.

I'd like an Atc active surround sound 7.1 set up and a Projecter and source to do it proud and of cource a cinema room to put it all in!

I would have a couple of systems one of which would include -

Pioneer A-400 amplifier, Chord Electronics Red Reference MK2 cd player and Dynaudio speakers (a model from either Contour or the Confidence range).

Nice system, although you may as well go for the JVC HD990.....

If you're going to choose KEF Reference, you need to choose amplification that can do them justice - Bryston. You could look at the 28Bsst2 monoblocks for each channel, and if you really want to be extravagant, use nine to monoblock/triamp the left/centre/right setup - there's £69,300 just for the LCR set! Four more for surround duties, and you have £100,000 worth of amplification supplying each of the 7 channels a fully stable 1000w into 8ohms. Of course, you'll need to reinforce the floor - you're talking about half a ton of amplification!! (Plus the 100kg for the subs, 130kg for the 207/2's - I think the whole system wouldn't be far off a ton). You'd probably need your own sub station too.

Lol @ own substation.

Well as we are dreaming......

I wasn't aware JVC did a 990. Go on then I'll have that one. And okay you have sold me on that Bryston stuff (one for each channel).

So roughly how much for the whole lot David (including a ballpark figure for cables)?

(I'll pretend my surname is Beckham)

And out of interest have you ever heard those Kef Reference speakers in a 7:2 configuration?

I was working it out, but there doesn't seem to be enough room on my calculator.....

Only at the Bristol Show last year - that was (to annoy a few forum members), awesome!
