igglebert:Thanks for the tip Ray. Isn't that a phono preamp?

EDIT - phono as in turntable. Or have I misunderstood what is meant to mean RCA?Oh sorry, I saw "pre" and immediately thought phono. For tube pre amps I'm not sure what's good. Personally I'd go solidstate for pre and tube for power. Mix and match works well I find.

igglebert:Well, for those looking for a warmer than average sound (analogue sounding?), the Arcam CD36 is meant to be very good and is going for about 700 notes. I should have got one myself as I'm still on a quest for warmth and thought the MF would sort it. The MF is a lot better than the Kandy was but I'm still not there yet! Anyone know of any good valve pres?

That's funny that - the guy I spoke to Lintone reckoned that in order of warm to bright, the Arcam came in at the warm end of the scale (this is the 192 I'm referring to) the MF next, then the Cyrus at the "bit more bite" end. I hear good things about the Vincent player at around £1000 (don't know about deals for this one) - apparently very good for warm and analogue sounding. Also the Audio Analogue Paganini at the same price. Not heard either though, but will the latter at the weekend.

Hi,
If I can get the cd192 at £400, will it be a big step up to my system and will it match my creek amp and epos speakers?

Personally I think it will give you improvements although how much I don't know because I haven't heard it. Based on what others have said the 192 is very good and was good when it retailed at £900. For 400 notes less the amount you get for your Cambridge it has to be worth a shot IMO.

A question to the others who have the cd player, what do you all think of it?
