Wharedale Diamond 10.1 speakers....Can you advise please?

Dear all,have haerd the Diamond 10.1's today,and v impressive they are too! I have long been wanting to replace my AE 109 floorstanders,they are starting to sound a bit slow.My local dealer won't let me bring the Diamonds home for an audition,so would a purchase give me the definition and speed that I'm looking for? My kit is not a world-beater by any stretch but is as follows:- Sony STR-DA2400es Amp,Cambride Audio Azur 640c V1 CD player,Sony BDP-S360 Blu ray player,Cable Talk 3.1 Bi-wire,Wharfedale SW150 sub.I love the power of the 109's,but need more definition.Thanks in advance,Ian.

The 10.3 floorstanders at £299 might give you the scale you want as well, so they could be worth a try? Picked up a 5 star review in Hi Fi World last month and the reviewer sounded pretty impressed. As floorstanders go, they're not huge, but not lacking either. Rear ported so this may be a consideration.

Why don't you take your existing hifi components to the dealer and test them there in his demo room? take your speakers aswell then you can do a proper comparison ....

will sound slightly different in your home as equipment sounds different in different rooms, but you will get a good idea

EDIT: Joking aside, the Qs are good alright, but I understand tight fast bass isn't their thing. I'd shortlist them for me, but not going from what the OP appeared to want.

You might also consider the Diamond 10.2. It's still a stand-mount - like the 10.1, but usefully bigger. The main driver is 165mm. I've had a pair about three weeks now, as replacements for Monitor Audio Bronze B2s. So far, I'm delighted with them. They cost £250.

the ae109s were a £330 speaker when new and a what hi fi 5star award winner and a speakers i owned and enjoyed very much - can't see the 10.1 competing to be honest (although not heard) even if your 109s are a little tired - i would stretch a little further i think and buy an improvement not a budget standmount

The 10.1's are excellent for the money, they really are surprising for the money. Obviously there are loads of viable alternatives, the main one to me is the Lektor 1 - it held the top spot before the 10.1s came along.

I am surprised you can't get a home demo, maybe ask again - most of the specialist shops I know in Scotland ( presuming that is where you are) happily offer this service.
