It's still looking for the news/site-offline URL which is what we put up this morning when we took the old site down before uploading the new one. It seems to have cached that somehow and isn't clearing it.

Thanks Chebby that's really helpful, I'll pass that on to the dev team in the morning and get them to take a look at it.

All feedback is welcome In fact, the Beta version of the new site was open for all to see on the old Forums for a couple of weeks, and the feedback then was generally positive.

We had a couple of key priorities in developing the new site: to improve site search (which was broken on the old site),

I fail to see how removing functionality is an improvement. It may have been broken, but you could search the forum, now its a 'product search'​

to make it quicker and easier to find the product you're looking for,

and to make the design responsive so it works as well on smartphone and tablet, which now accounts for 40% of our user traffic. A lot of users complained the old site was hard to use on mobile devices, for which it was not designed.

'Responsive' it may be, working well on smartphone/tablets not so much.

Jesus. Did you even bother to test it on any devices

Ok. Third clearing of history / cookies (and another re-boot of iPad Mini) and forums tab is now working.

Just leaves the signature thing and having to do word verification checks when posting.

Phew! One down, two to go. The verification check requires a small change to your settings in the CMS at our end, as it's different from the old site I'll just need to check with the dev team in the morning which box to tick! And we'll look into the signature issue as well.

Looks good to me. Loving the new layout and fonts, seems absolutely tailor-made for my 27" iMac. Though if it doesn't have intelligent scaling of some sort, I can imagine it's not going be much fun for anyone running anything less than 1600x900 though.

Have to agree as well, it's all far too large and far too narrow. For example, a review fills up less than half the screen width and contains just about a couple of words per line, the forum here being similar. It looks like one is reading this on a 32" pad device with font size 50!

Who on earth made the decision to change it to this?! And why, who's supposed to benefit? I assumed I'd be writing "phone users" here, however judging by the comments so far, apparently they're not faring much better.

I do hate being negative but I am unlikely to use this site all the while it is so slow and while everything is huge.

Can it not just be a normal forum layout like this one for example? It almost seems custom designed when perfectly adequate templates are out there being used every day?

Again, sorry for the negative tone, hopefully taken as constructive critisism. I used to visit the site daily but now it's such an odd layout I am not so sure. Sorry!

Edit: I would also add that this does not reflect the nicely layed out magazine...

Totally agree with you. Can't believe they've spent 12 whole months producing something so cluttered, unintuitive and hard to use. What a completely pointless and thoroughly disappointing exercise. That's me out.

Agree totally. Fonts are too large and site is too narrow. Viewing the site on 13" Retina Macbook Pro. Websites from others like Apple, Engadget etc all look normal so there are no strage settings on my laptop.
