Hello,

I have been looking at wall mounting my new tv but find myself confused by the huge choice of brackets out there, is there anything i should especially be looking out for or are they all pretty much the same? Also i would like to know why brackets are being sold that seem to conflict with the advice given in my manual, it says i should have a 10cm gap at the rear of the tv to allow for adequate ventilation yet brackets are on sale that seem to offer virtually no clearance at the back atall (flush fixed wall mounts). This prompts me to ask two more questions...are these brackets safe to use with my tv and if not do i then need to buy a bracket that allows me the 10cm clearance at the back? Any help would be much appreciated thank you.

Hi creaky. We are also looking to wall-mount our TV, but 10cm sounds like a massive gap. I think only a turn and swivel one would give this sort of a gap (makes your living room look like a pub though - and some folk like that!). Are you sure it says 10cm?

We were looking at using probably a B-Tech BT8422-B for our Philips 9664.

Hello fellow creaky!

I've just checked my manual and i wasn't dreaming (thought i might have) it does say a gap of 10cm, however it is a bit vague....there is a diagram showing a 10cm box around the outside of the screen but in reference to the wall distance there seems no specific info other than this line from the manual 'Keep the required distances between the product and other objects (e.g. walls) to ensure proper ventilation' .

I therefore take that to mean that 10cm clearance is required at the back when placed on a wall mount...?? As i said it's really rather vague but that's my interpretation maybe you think differently oh wise one .lol!

Just checked the manual for my samsung screen, which is an older model than yours and it says similar. I think it means around the edges of the screen though, basically saying do not box it in. I dont think it means have a 10cm gap at the back of the screen.

I got a bracket for mine on ebay, it was only £19 delivered, and sits only about 2cm off the wall.

That makes more sense to me (and my Philips has similar advice).

Thanks everyone for the replies!

I phoned Samsung this morning just to clarify and it seems you guys are right the 10cm for ventilation is just for the outside of the screen and NOT applicable to the rear of the unit, you can use any mall mounting with the correct fixings for the unit. hooray!!

It's always a good idea to be sure. Good look with the wall hanging - be doing it soon myself (got to get the cables through the wall first). Still waiting in for our Denon amp to arrive.....

Yep can't wait to hang it on the wall....one small problem with that, the tv is going back on friday as i've got the dreaded 'clouding' in all four corners of the screen (don't beleive my luck!). It's really bad in the top left corner and has been getting worse over the last few days and has started to morph into a really unsightly white streak which seems to be getting bigger. Glad i paid the extra and went with a decent retailer now for the sake of saving a few quid as Amazon despatched a new set to me today and i should get it tomorrow, that's a decent service i think.

Hope you aren't waiting too long for your Denon amp to arrive...just got the lenghty set up to go through when it arrives which arguably is the best bit! Have fun.....still jealous though. lol.

Yeah - I just noticed that you had started a Samsung clouding thread - sorry about that. The Denon came in the morning, but I was also waiting for an Optimum hifi stand for our components. It was delivered to completely the wrong house and I spent the afternoon walking over there, knocking on their door and nobody being in. The box was in their porch, so I could see it. They had taken it in for their next door neighbour. It was correctly labelled and we live on the other side of the street, so why the courier thought it was for their neigbour can only be put down to the fact he was a MORON. Managed to get it at 4:30, but I only knew it was there because a friend saw an Optimum box coming off the back of a van that morning and knew I was waiting in for the same - seemed to much of a coincidence.

Is there anybody who works for a courier firm who does not know why we moan so much about them?

Good luck with your replacment TV. I will check you new thread.

Blimey! That was lucky with your hifi stand...what a total moron though, couldn't he read the number on the door? Good news that you got both eventually though, my replacement tv has arrived and it's faulty aswell!! Update on thread.

To be totally fair to everyone involved with our Optimum stand, I had an apology from the online retailer (Stand & Deliver), a very nice one from Karen at Optimum (who sent the item) and a phonecall from the couriers - Tuffnells. Because of the lack of care of one employee (aknowledged by all concerned) I had some hassle, but I also felt that the matter was very important to everyone involved and I would therefore give them all a very distinct thumbs-up. It is the nicest thing as a consumer, to find people selling you something actually care and don't just want your cash (as it can often feel), so I will always state my satisfaction on these threads (as well as my frustrations).

I should also add the item was at a very good price indeed and had free delivery. 1 little mistake, but it all came good in the end.

I must say that is quality customer service you received with your stand, i have never heard of people going to that trouble before so kudos to everyone involved! It makes a pleasant change to hear a good news story rather than the normal beating couriers and retailers get on these forums at times, and it warms the heart to know there are people out there that genuinely care about their customers.

You should check out Multibrackets wall mounts.

Here is a link with their products on Amazon UK.

value for money, good strong items, easy to mount.
Rule of thumb, if the first thing you post is a product recommendation, people on the forum will be a little suspicious that you might be related to the company in question.

Of more importance is why he/she is commenting on a thread i started (and that finished) 2 years ago!!

I have a totally different tv now as my signature reflects....i'm with you hammill, i smell a rat here. Perhaps he/she works or has has shares in the bracket company mentioned?
