Does anyone know what type of connection this tuner has as 75Ω input?

Tuner is a Pioneer TX-520L. I cannot find this information anywhere online...

I would like to connect a cable from the FM socket in the wall into the tuner to try to improve the reception.

(Am currently using the FM300Ω BAL connection but I'm hoping there is an aerial installed on the roof I could make use of through the wall socket.)

Are you using an aerial lead with a plug at each end and not a pass through aerial lead that has a socket at one end? The socket in the picture looks like a standard aerial socket. (The outer ring also looks like it will expand)

I don't have a cable from before and haven't purchased one since I thought to check exactly what I need.

I have tried with this cable: https://www.ebay.com/itm/FM-75Ohm-UNBAL-Dipole-Indoor-Antenna-F-Type-Male-Connector-Y-Tuner-for-YAMAHA-/332339432688

And this does not fit, no matter if I press it really hard.

Surely it's a different type of socket...?

I tested with this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/FM-75Ohm-UNBAL-Dipole-Indoor-Antenna-F-Type-Male-Connector-Y-Tuner-for-YAMAHA-/332339432688

Would not go in even though I pushed it with quite a bit of force... it really seems to be a different type of connection to me...

It is just possible that the previous owner of the tuner clamped down the outer ring of the socket in order to make it grip his plug more, thereby making it too tight for you now.

The outside of your plug's body should fit inside the ring of the socket.

Here's what I would do:

First I'd get a medium sized flat-bladed screwdriver in the gap at the bottom of the ring and expand it.

If that didn't do the trick, with the tuner isolated from mains power, I'd take off the hardboard back panel and remove the socket (by removing the 2 black screws either side of it) then fit one of these chassis sockets:

http://cpc.farnell.com/pro-signal/psg01950/tv-coax-socket-chassis/dp/AV15498

(If it didn't fit in the plastic hole where the old one was, you could make a hole for it in the hardboard)

Or, as an alternative, take the plug-to-plug lead, bare one end and solder it directly onto the circuit board.

(If you can get it to South East Essex, l'll do it for you)
