Hello all. I'm new to this techno lark so if anyone can reply in simple terms I would be very grateful..... I am purchasing a 37inch panny and have either TX-37LZD70 or TH-37PX70 in my sights. My issues are as follows - 1) My room will not be the brightest of rooms (but whose is when watching films?) so would plasma be better? 2) Only sport we watch is motorsport, so does this have any bearing at all? 3) We mainly watch SD at mo but will be getting SKY HD in couple of months. We also watch standard DVDs with no thoughts of getting blu-ray. 4) I have panny DMR-EX77 5) Big bro says I should buy only Full HD, so should I listen to him? This would mean purchasing 42 inch plasma and I don't think I have enough room for this size TV. All comments and advice greatly received. Thanks.

Hi Moosive

I have the px70 42 which is only hd ready and i think it is a supurb tv. We have virgin+ and the picture is excellent.. If you get sky hd then you will love this tv (px70 37), Just get an upscaling dvd player to watch normal dvd's.

Thanks for that. I think I just need my mind putting at rest once and for all. Does anyone know if the panny DMR-EX77 is an upscaling DVD player? Like I said I am very new to this game.

I own both the Pioneer PDP506XDE, which is HD Ready, and the Samsung LE40M87, which is Full HD. The picture on the Pioneer is much better, despite its age, as what you notice from a distance is the colour reproduction, the pixels become invisible after a metre or so, and you begin to see the image as a whole, so my advice is to see which TV satisfies you most in this respect. I find colours Plasmas generally look a touch more natural. Motion handling on the Pioneer is also better. As a result I do the majority of my viewing using the Pioneer, as DVDs and Standard Definition look better. I use the 40" Samsung for gaming where I have a 1080p source. With no thoughts of purchasing anything in the way of blu-ray, it does not seem worth the extra outlay for Full HD, although sky will look better. However, if the only sport you watch is motorsport (I watch a lot of this) the plasma is still a better bet due to its better motion handling; the fast moving objects and panning cameras present in motoracing broadcasts can fox LCD screens. I believe Sky Sports is broadcast in 720p not 1080i, so therefore the resolution of Panasonic's plasma is a better match. Based on this I reckon the plasma is definitely the one for you. Also, consider how close you are to your TV screen; obviously the 1080p set will be better for viewing from around 2m or less. Hope this helps, Lewis.

The TH37PX70 has been replaced by the TH37PX80.

O yes i forgot to mention that!. Good work batman!

The PX70 is still available, though the PX80 is even better and I am adament WHF will give it a 5* review so dont worry if you cant find it. They are both the same price on the web although i am sure dealers will be wanting to flog any remaining '70's soon.

What Hi-Fi - any ideas when the review of the PX80 is going to be? Thanks for your help people.

Yes the Panny does upscale to 1080p,I have the slightly older dmr-ex75 which upscales to 1080i,your model is the one that replaces mine.On tv subject,I have a Sony hd ready tv and watch SDDVD,HDDVD and Blu-ray and it looks good enough to me,hope this helps.By the way, they say you won`t notice the difference between Full HD 1080p and HD ready 1080i if the screen size is under 32 inch I think it is.
