I suppose increasing post count lends a bit of credibility. I would trust someone with 50-odd posts as opposed to a first poster.

I remember once there was a poster who asked a very valid TV question, but had put a link advertising a business in signature. When it was pointed to him, he deleted the signature. Once the post count increased, he quietly put a link in again, this time of a dodgy website in signature. So suddenly, there were 50-odd posts with the signature.
