Using a Rotel in a closed back cupboard?

Dear audiohiles, I would like to kindly ask for your expertise here. I'm in the market for a new amplifier. The race is down to the NAD D3020 and Rotel RA-11. A variable I will have to take into account is flexibility when it comes to placement . Ideally, I would like to able to hide the amp in a cupboard like this: http://www.ikea.com/PIAimages/73952_PE190718_S5.jpg Physically, the Rotel RA-11 fits. There would be approximately 15 inches of free space above the amp, and 7 inches on each side. But, the back of the sideboard is closed and, of course, the front would be closed most of the time as well. Would placing (and using) the Rotel in this enclosed space make it too hot? 98% percent of the listening is at a rather moderate level, not pushing the B&W 686 speakers.

When the amp is ON if the doors of the cupboard are open it should't be a problem to put the Rotel there .

Hi johol355

I'll recommend that you should also consider Monitor Audio's new A100 amplifier which should be available fairly soon.

All the best

Thanks for the heads up, RIck. Judging from the specs of the A100, this amp could make the D3020 obsolete. Any idea when it might hit the shelves?

Hi johol355

Your welcome.

Yes, the A100 certainly looks and sounds very promising :) Anyway I'll check as to when the A100 is going to be released and get back to you tomorrow.

All the best
