USB and SPDIF to digital AES output converter?

Can anybody help me with this? I am probably going to change my whole setup from passive to PMC active speakers. The speakers I am looking at have DAC/DSP and Class D amplification built in with an onboard volume control, so (I think) it makes sense for me to ditch my seperate analogue pre-amp and DAC and run my sources directly in to the single AES digital input on the speakers.

To do this I am going to need to be able to switch between several digital sources and output via AES digital. Make sense so far? The maximum number of inputs will be three and one of them will definately be USB. The other two inputs will be spdif or AES.

Can anybody reccommend a product (studio or hi-fi) which can do this? There seem to be plenty with spdif optical/coaxial and AES inputs, but I am drawing a blank for something allowing USB input...

Many thanks...

But one that I looked into a while back.

There are a number of pro products that do some of what you ask, look here...

https://www.thomann.de/gb/digital_converters.html?filter=true&feature-11090=true

I thought the Mutec MC 1.2 most useable and relatively inexpensive.

Thanks Dave. That looks to be exactly what I am looking for... All the best gazzip.

...although it doesn't seem to convert spdif inputs to AES digital out, just to USB out by the looks of it? Hmmm... a difficult one that may require one than more box...

Is that it converts Spdif to AES and USB outputs simultaneously, I have not had hands on, so hard to be sure, best to check.

So it converts USB and S/PDIF inputs to a single AES output, allowing for AES output switching between the two inputs? Great if it does, but I am not seeing a "select input" or a "select output" display on the front, which makes me think it is doing everything simulataneosly rather than allowing for switching between inputs to a single AES output?

It looks like I need one of these to convert my USB to AES, and then a 2-way AES digital input switch. This will enable me to also output from my CD transport as AES and switch between the Mutec and CDP AES outputs in to one AES input in the the speakers. Make sense?

Yes there is 2 buttons on the front that selects through a ton of modes that the unit does - however best to check with Mutec - email them directly

It is quite a sophisticated and complex piece of kit, I would definitely email Mutec with a description of how you plan to use the unit, pay particular attention to how you can select the USB input and, when you select another input, which appears on the usb as an output, what issues there may be with that.

It's all about 'da bass and I know that the ATC's won't cut it... Clean and fast yes, but ATC's are just to lean for my tastes...

Is the difference between these 2 models just the bass module or is there more to it?

It's just the bass module which will enable me to load the room more evenly.

It's the LF produced by the transmission line design I like and crave. The PMC speakers also have built in DSP and they will be installed and calibrated in my room by A PMC engineer if I buy them. I admire the ATC sound and I know why it is so popular. I would even recommend it to others to audition on that basis, but I personally just don't like it...

That I understand makes perfect sense I just looked at it and thought 15k is a lot of cheese for 2 subwoofers. They are charging hell of a lot for that for example 2 x jl audio f212 wouldn't cost that much

Is there something I am missing?

I have my fingers crossed for you *smile*

A pair those Active ib2s - xbd's would be on my shopping list if I ever felt the need to upgrade.

Deal fell through, which is a bit of a pisser. However, every cloud has a silver lining...

I have a little project gaining momentum which involves me activating a pair of PMC MB2SE's! Or causing irreparable damage to a pair of MB2SE's. We shall see which way it goes...

That sounds very interesting indeed, will you be using Bryston amps and crossovers or something more bespoke .

The thought of a pair of MBSSE's going up in smoke sends shivers down my spine .*shok*

All Bryston is my proposed route. I am selling most of my system to fund this. I will be left with the MB2SE's (collecting tommoz), a pair of Bryston 7B3's (ordered), my Innuos Zen server/streamer and my PS Audio DAC. The other required pair of Bryston 3B3's and the active x-overs are gonna have to wait until I have sold my kdneys...
