US Import Blu Ray Discs on Amazon

Has anyone bought the US import discs they sell on Amazon, and well do they Play on UK Machines?

(my player is a sony bdps-550, if that's relevent?)

If they are really US Region A coded, then they won't play on a UK region B machine.

However, many discs with Region A on the packaging are actually region-free: import specialist Movietyme has a blog in which it tests import discs for region-coding - click here

With the Pound being on it's *** is it still worth getting imported discs?

I go to Canada at least once a year and used to get DVD box sets very cheap, but that was when it was C$2.30 to the £. Now it's closer to C$1.55 (tourist rate).

The last disc I bought there was Wall-E on DVD and it was more expensive there than here. Tesco want £25 for Wall_E on Blu-ray though so might still be worth importing/buying abroad if the're region free.

Well especially when we're talking Blu-rays, there are quite a few more titles available over there than here. Add to that that sometimes they get better audio included on their releases, it sometimes makes sense to get imports. There are quite a few discs I've imported simply because they are favourite films of mine and not available over here. I wouldn't buy from the States to save money, but there are still some titles available there not available here/not yet available here/in different versions to the UK release

Well the one i've got my eye on is less than a tenner including shipping and not available as a UK one yet.

Amazon arent forthcoming however about the region codes 🙁
