Hi Folks,

I've had a Marantz 7300 ose for many years now. I use it for my 6.1 home theatre, as well as stereo coupled with an old Toshiba SR 355 turntable. While walking through the local audio shops I sometimes check out the new receivers. I'm not interested in all the new bells and whistles, but I wonder if the newer units would sound better that what I have. What would I be looking at in a new receiver, to get the same build/sound quality I get from the 7300 ose?

Thanks
Charles

Buy another 7 series Marantz, everyone on here who has one seems to be happy (including myself).

Around August is the best time to buy. AV receivers heamorage money when the new versions come out, I bought my SR7007 for half price when the SR7008 came out.

The current version is the SR7010 which is selling for £1200 at the mo, if you can wait 5 months you will probably save £400.

Hi Paul,

Much appreciated - great advice! I've been out of the AV loop for a while. Could I expect the same build quality at the 7300 OSE? Has the sound quality improved much over the last 13 years?

Unfortunately I haven't heard your amp or the current generation amp so I couldn't answer. I will say that the SR7007 will best a PM7200 stereo receiver, and soundly thrashes my old Onkyo 805 with music duties.

In terms of build, the 7 series AV receivers are well built but not battle ship class. My Onkyo had a good five to six KG on my current Marantz. You may find the odd bit of plastic on the door flaps etc but it will be sturdy.
