Upgrade

Hi everyone new here and thought I would dive in with a question if I may, I currently have a marantz 6004 amp and cd player with monitor audio br2 speakers also a teac ud-h01 dac I listen to most of my music from a laptop .Basically I have £500 to upgrade and am not sure which direction to throw the cash .Thanks for any help.

Looks like a decent, well matched system. Is there anything in particular you think needs improving?

Im not very good with describing things like this but would like it to sound a bit brighter and open is the my best description

Try moving your speakers around a little. It's a cheap but very effective tweak to reposition them and the results can be surprising. Failing that, change the speakers. You might find something like Tannoy's dual concentric design or KEF with their Uni-Q approach offer more of what you need.

My DC4 throws out a big soundstage to the point I've thought the fire alarm was going off in my hall 15 feet away when it was actually in the film I was watching!!
