My current system:

rotel ra04se as preamp

rotel rb1080 as power amp

denon dcd 1650 cd player

b&w 684

monitor audio br6

i intend to buy a rotel rc 1550 preamp. Is it worth upgrading from 04se as preamp or the difference would be minimal.

any input mates?

You have a good power amp I don't think that changing your pre will improve the sound much . Why do you want to to upgrade the pre ?

I don't think that you will notice any difference but if you want to be sure It is better to make a demo .

Changing from using in integrated amp to a pre should give some improvement in sound, but as said a demo is a must as only you will know if it's worth the cost. of course the adition of a remote may make the cost worth it?

The upgrade would cost me roughly £160. Well it must improve the sound. I am really confused.

i believe a dedicated preamp is better than an integrated being used as a preamp.

The power amp has much more influence than the pre on the sound unless you are buying an expensive high end pre I realy don't think that

the sound will be improve but you will benefit a remote control , it is frustrating to operate Hi Fi system without it .

Hi Bebeboy

The RB-1080 is an excellent power amplifier. If you are willing to look at used/ discontinued pre amplifiers then a NAD C160 or a Rotel RC-995 are also worth bearing in mind as the C160 and the RC-995 pair well an RB-1080.

All the best

Thanks rick, bought the rcd 06SE and rc 1550 already. What a great sounding preamp. Perfectly matches my rb1080. :)

An excellent choice . Enjoy !
Thanks mate. On the contrary my all rotel set up, (cdp, pre, power) matches perfectly with Monitor Audio BR6 than B&W684. :)
