Hi Guys,

At present I have the following set up:

Arcam CD93 CD player

Arcam A85 Amplifier

Arcam P85 Power amplifier

Mission 782SE Speakers

Ignoring cables, as I am happy with them, what would be your suggested next upgrade?

I listen to all sorts of music, so flexibility is important. I also like a detailed, but natural sound.

Over to you and thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I personally would get a new CDP with a digital in so that you have more flexibility ie streaming, Spotify etc etc as well as CDs. The CD93 is quite soft so you could get something with the warmth but more of a cutting edge. I had a CD92 and when I upgraded to a CD192 the difference was astonishing. None of these have a digital in, but you get my drift.

Then I would change the speakers, look at ProAc, Kudos (which go very well with the A85/P85 combo as I had them before), PMC, Spendor.

Thanks JoelSim,

Is was thinking in terms of upgrading the CD first and was considering either an Arcam CD17 or Cyrus CD6SE. I feel that either one would provide a little more attack.

I would change the speakers and also look at hooking up spotify to your system

I have considered the Neat Motive 2's or the MA RSX 6's as I like floorstanders; although I have looked at the EB Acoustics too.

I have seen the Cyrus CD6SE for £599, which is quite tempting!

At this stage I am not really interested in Spotify.

I'd probably go for speakers first, they have more potential to make a night-and-day difference. Your budget hints from the speakers mentioned above are quite wide though - how much did you want to spend?

JayKay70:I have a budget of up to £1,000.

I'd look at 2nd hand good speakers with a £1000 budget ....

on ebay, you may find speakers that were £2500-£3000 3 years ago

here is an example of good used

ProAc Supertower MKII ... ebay item 320465793046 ... Buy It Now of £650

these are a few years old and from what I have read on forums, are pretty good ... not sure how they would match your system, but is merely an example of what can be bought 2nd hand

Not really keen on going down the second hand route.

I want to keep it as a straight forward Hi Fi, no Spotify, or similar.

Seems likely I will be looking at CD player or speakers.
