tried to email the lamizator guys ... mails keep on getting returned, so not sure if they still offer the service?

have however decided that I will save up and get a used Eikos cdp as modded by Tom Evans (a standard Pioneer PD-904 totally rebuilt) ... have been doing a lot of research lately and have read very good reviews on these ... they used to sell for approx £2500 ... many say it runs rings around the Marantz CD-7 and Linn Sondek CD-12 ...

hoping to get a good used one for approx £800-£1500 and will see what happens next year ... My Marantz CD63 MKII K1 sig is working fine for now

NO mate...not quite, I heard CD7 side by side with Eikos TE and while they are not million miles between them, CD7 sounded a lot more organic and better imaging. Eikos has details on it's side but midrange was too pushy and highs a tad on the forward side of natural but pretty impressive all the same. As for modded Marantz 63 (Ki, 67 etc...) I think for the layout, you do get a great value for money but don't expect the highend preformance. My friend just finnish a big mod on CD10 and while the improvement was clear as night and day, it's never going to be a wadia beater!

just stating what I have heard and read ... I know the CD7 is brilliant but some say that the Eikos is much better (by far) ...

when comparing used prices, the Marantz CD7 sells for £3500+ because only a few were ever made and it is rare ... however the Eikos sells for as little as £800 (used) ... so looks like I may be getting an Eikos (and the nice thing is that it does not cost much for a service by the person who originally made the item who is based here in the UK)
