Unsure of upgrade path

Hey all

I've recently resurected my old Mission 760iSE speakers (atacama stands, cabletalk 3 cables) as I got a new marantz PM6003 amp for using in the office. This has meant that my play device is a iMac from this year with a M-audio Firewire 1814 as the DAC, and the MAC for CD's, MP3's and most importantly BBC Radio 6 Music via the internet.

I'm really interested in upgrading the speakers and I'm willing to invest a pretty penny up to the value of £500 if I have to, but of course I'd rather save cash where possible. I guess I should look at upgrading the speaker cables when I do this.

I'm interested in the Eb1's but worry it will eat all the budget without nicer cables, or the B&W 685's leaving me some cash over for cables. Or is it worthwhile taking just the Warfdale 10.1's and a decent step up from the Mission's I currently use.

Any advice would be most helpful. 🙂

don't believe the raving review WHF gives the Warfdale 10.1's; they're not that great. its definitely worth spending the extra!

Epos M5i. these can be picked up (brand new) for about £350. Should be a very good upgrade on the Missions and will synergise well with Marantz. Or for about the same money, Monitor Audio RX1s should be cracking. Personally, Id go for the Epos - no particular reason, but makes a refreshing change from me banging on about the virtues of MA...

Have a look at the Alesis Monitor One Mk2. For speaker cable try this.

Happy hunting.

Thanks All. You've given me much food for thought, and plenty hours in the listening room.

Thanks for showing me different paths to just the typical "award winners".

All the best

Andy

Can I also suggest trying to audition the Mission 790 and 792. The latter got a very complimentary review in another magazine and you never know, they MIGHT just suit you. Some great deals on them just now too.
