Unauthorised Dealers/Grey Imports

I wonder if any one can assist me. I am interested in buying a 46" Sony TV and I want to buy it the cheapest that I can. When I spoke to a dealer, he went into a discussion on why i should not buy from this dealer because he is not Sony authorised or that dealer as his TVs are grey imports and this part of the TV does not work, hence his justification for a higher price. CAn anyone help me on this matter as I thought that due to the Treaty of Rome, any dealer could sell any TV they want or have I got the wrong end of the stick here? IS it best to pay the premium?

Register your TV with Sony which will make sure its not stolen. Go for the cheapest new set you can get, if its dodgy it will usually be blatantly obvius to anyone with a smidge of common sense.
