Two Sonos Play5 vs Sonos Amp + 500£ speakers

I'm looking for a home-office stereo solution in the 1000£ range, with Sonos connection.

I wonder if anyone tried this and can help me choose between 2 x Sonos Play 5 (in stereo mode) and a system using a Sonos Connect Amp + standmount speakers of 400-500£. If the latter... what speakers to use?

It's hard to beat 2 X Sonos Play:5s in stereo mode for the price to be honest.

Hard to say. I'd imagine a sonos connect, not the connect amp, fed with a digital optical to a marantz pm6006 and then using a pair of Q acoustics 2050i floorstanders, which should be about the same budget would sound better than either set up if you have room for floorstanders, but this is just a thought, not fact

The connect:amp is a couple of generations old, and pricey for what you get.

The new play:5s are pretty good, and also support Sonos' room correction software, which as far as I can tell the connect:amp doesn't.

No nonsense with connections or cabling, just plug them in. I would give this solution serious consideration.

How about a Yamaha WXA-50 and a pair of Dynaudio Emit 20?

That would work out £30 more plus speaker cables but would playback directly from USB, work as a dac for one other device and do hires.

Thank you for your comments. Some of you (and your links) pointed out that 2xPlay5s might be a very good (and comfortable) solution within my budget. I never listened to a pair of them in stereo, so I will arrange listening sessions with two Play5s and also with some passive speakers. On my (not very) shortlist are:
Elac Uni-Fi BS U5 Slim
KEF Q300
Elipson Planet L
Monitor Audio Silver 1
Q Acoustics Concept 20 (or even 3020)
B&W 685 S2
Dynaudio Emit M10

For these, the Sonos Connect Amp remains the first option (for Sonos integration reasons). And the Sonos Connect + budget amp is an option.

The Sonos connect amp has the connectivity etc, I'm not sure it is the best amp for the money, understand its more convenience than hifi
