I'm confused as to the difference between standard sat dish, and the extra you pay for "twin freesat installation" if, for example, you are buying a humax foxsat digital recorder. Is there a link to explain why this is needed, or can you simply split the signal from a standard sat dish once the cable is in the house?

The difference is that a standard dish has a single port lnb(part on the end of dish arm that receives signal) and a "twin freesat installation" uses a twin port(dual) lnb as the pvr has twin tuner's so require's two feed's,although they may actually fit a quad lnb and you'll have two spare ports.

The reason for multi-port lnb's is that you can't split a satellite signal in the same way that you can a terresestrial aerial signal due to the way satellite signal's are transmitted.
