TV stands and disjointed thinking...

The AV industry seems to have had a common-sense bypass here.

Imagine you're a soundbar designer and your manager gives you the design brief. It must sound fullsome and natural and must be less than 50mm high and it'll point at the listeners' knees. Surely there must be soundbar designers all over the world sobbing to sleep at night muttering in Scottish accent "You canna change the laws of physics."

Why oh why don't soundbar designers (or centre speaker designers for that matter) get out a little more often and have a chat with TV designers? What if TV designers made stands that can be set at different heights? Panasonic managed it with one of their LED TV's in 2017. Why this isn't universally available is baffling. Every TV salesman worth their salt these days must surely be bleeting in unison, "well these flat TV's have very poor sound so if you want decent sound you're just gunna have to give me more wads of cash and buy a soundbar or a complete sound system. Woahhhahhahahaha." I don't think he's supposed to say that last bit out loud.

So if it's that common, and the popularity of soundbars indicate anything (despite their resolutely awful sound), is that many people do actually accept this salesman's pitch. So why don't TV makers make TV stands that assume people WILL be putting some kind of electrical slab in front of their TV, and allow a sufficient gap between the bottom of the TV and the cabinet, for a soundbar, or even (steady on) a centre speaker?

No.

Just no,

They seem to be determined to make their TV's look as sleek and low slung as possible. So the life of the soundbar designer will continue to be a thankless one.
