I find the diction through my phillips 37PFL7603D tv is not as good as my old crt sony which I have recently thrown away, it seems to vary depending on what program I am watching, and some programs are fine, on the crt everything sounded fine

But am I 100% right that if I take the output from my phono outs on the tv and play it through a hi-fi or surround system that the sound will be totally independant of the sound the tv produces, or is the phono out amplified slightly by the tv?

The TV would do some processing to get the signal out, but you'd bypass the TV's amp and speakers. If you can get a digital out of the TV that might be best as then you can bypass any digital to analogue conversion as well, and let your amp do it.

The general concensus is that LCd / Plasma speakers aren't as good as the CRT ones, as there isn't enough room on the new TVs.

Hope this helps.
