As i understand tvs and ps3 have onboard upscalers. So which one do i use to upscale and how do i do it? Also if you throw say the onkyo 606 into the mix, do you use that? So confused

I have a PS3, Onk 6060, Kuro 8s & Humax PVR

I use PS3 to upscale DVD
I use Kuro to upscale SD TV (via Humax)
Onk set to straight through

Whatever you do, the TV will want to scale whatever it gets streamed to the resolution of its screen.

I can't find an english Onk manual online. I think it defaults to pass thru, so you shouldn't need to do anything (chack your manual).

The PS3 - you can change the settings under Settings | Display Settings | Video Output Settings

It will depend on what TV you have as to which one you use (some TVs like the Pioneers have excellent scalers in them). Go to the Video Output Settings as PJPro says and use the Custom set up and make sure only 576p is ticked, then play a DVD and see what the picture is like. Then go back and choose Automatic and let it find the best native resolution for your TV. Then go into BD/DVD Settings and switch the DVD Upscaler on. Then play the same DVD and see what the picture is like. Repeat as necessary and then go with whichever one you think looks best.
