tv compatibility?

Hi, im hoping someone can help, im curious to know if i bought a Sony 40ex503 in the uk would the tv decoder/reciever work in malaysia ?

A certain on-line encyclopedia states that Malaysia as well as other ASEAN countries have adopted DVB-T as the standard for terrestrial digital TV. Aiming to have analogue switched off by end of 2015. DVB-T is the same as the standard in Europe & Australia amongst others.

I assume that this would mean the answer is yes, but would it not be cheaper to buy a set out there rather than ship one?
