So now my Rega P2 has decided to play slowly, but not all the time. Its slow to get going also. I'm sure its not the belt as its new so I'm guessing the motor.
If its the motor, is it cost effective to replace it? can I do it myself? or is it just ? what would be a good replacement?
its about 15 yrs old but used lightly

It could be that the pulley on the motor shaft has come loose and is slipping.

If so, a little tiny bit of superglue on the metal shaft will fix it. Be sure to ensure the pulley is pushed back on to the same height it was originally, otherwise the belt will ride too low on the subplatter and could slip off - or be too high and have the belt and/or the pulley itself fouling the underside of the glass platter.

Rega's should always be operated with the 'digital' start up routine...

Use one of your digits to get the platter rotating then quickly switch on whilst it is turning. This reduces unecessary strain on the motor and prolongues the life of the belt.

Never switch off between records. (This is why there is a felt mat.)

Call your nearest Rega dealer if you are not sure.
