Turntable Lid Sounding Like A Seized Up Car Door Hinge

Hi, I'm using an original Project Debut II turntable which is in great condition. However out-of-the-bue the lid, on opening suddenly sounds like aused car door hinges that are rusted. I've tried loosening and tightening the screws on the hinge but no success. Anyone else had a noisy, tight turntable lid issue?
