Turntable Help: Rega P1 / RP1 or others

I am looking to purchase a basic turntable due to recently acquiring a large amount or vinyl via my family. So far I have looked at the usual suspects such as the Pro-ject Debut and Rega RP1 which all appear to have received good reviews.

I have seen an older Rega P1 advertised at a great price, which is probably because it is not the current model, although was wondering if there is any large differences between the P1 and RP1? I believe the P1 can use a glass platter.

Alternatively, are there any models which I may have missed. Is the Pro-ject better than either of these?

Apparently yes, the RP1 is approaching the P2.

All in its a great package for the price.

Thanks. Do you know if the RP1 can be used with a glass or acrylic platter? Part of the appeal with the P1 is it can use either of these and they look a lot better than the plastic one on the RP1.

For anyone who is interested, I looked at both the Pro-ject Debut III and Rega RP1 and decided on the Rega in the end. Looking forward to getting it and starting a serious vinyl collection.
