Went turntable browsing today, as I am considering the possibility of going for a belt drive deck and how dissappointing. Everything I touched upto around £500 felt as though it might just fall apart. It was only when I looked at the 900 quid mark did things improve and that was the pro ject acrylic deck which looked and felt substantial. The funniest thing was, when I went into sevenoaks and the guy asked me what i,d got. So Told him an sl1200mk2 and he said, yeah thats fine, at least its better that a rega rp1. Pardon the pun but could have decked him lol. He then gave me the usual spiel about it being a dj deck and so on, then told me that they had a rega in the window and it was so plasticky it warped in the heat. Anyway, my so called rubbish direct drive dj technics wont be going any where just yet.

The one ive seen for 800 is the straight arm ...is the headshell detachable on that too ? Going from the write up on whfi it seems to be my sort of sound ...lush and flowing rather that too analytical but with the option of the clamp to tighten the sound up if i fancy a change.....should be a good match for my set up...just depends how much i can get for my techie....
Keep your DD deck - you may prefer it over a belt drive - I have an old Sony direct drive that I sometimes spin - it has a lot more drive with the bass than my Gyrodec but looks fugly Sony 6750

the pro-ject xperience turntables have a one piece moulded tonearm/headshell(9cc evo)I expect,so not interchangeable i'm afraid.

As far as I am aware all Xperience come with a straight arm and the headshell is definately not removeable as its part of the single carbon-fibre molding (the 9cc Evolution arm). It certainly looks nice particularly in Olive wood. ;-)
EDIT: Sorry just looked forward a bit and have seen Mark's comments. He is correct.
If you fancied a change you should be able to get a good price if selling the 1200.
If you have the cash and really want a change then buy the Project but keep hold of the 1200 until you have had a good chance to appraise the new purchase then sell on whichever you least like would be my thoughts.

That technics deck could end up worth more than you paid for it.
if you can afford to keep it and still buy another TT, then that's what I'd do.
having an acrylic tt myself, I love the style, and the performance.
I don't think you will hear night and day differences, but owning a beautifully made piece of kit is enjoyable in its own way.

Keep the Technics if you can. As for differences, agreed, not night and day but you should definitely hear a distinct change in presentation. Not sure of your financial situation AA but there are plenty of online stores offering 0% over 6 months or 9 months BNPL, problem is they tend to want top dollar for the product.

I've been playing with both the S-Shape and Strandard. I have a 2Xperience SB in Walnut myself at home and I must admit I prefer the 9CC tonearm. The S-Shape does add the advantage of a swapable headshell but to my ears it sounds a bit harder and clinical compared to mine. I run a 2M Black through a Lehmann Black Cube SE at home and the testing of the S-Shape was done with a 2M Red and Quintet Bronze on a Maia DS.
Ho yuss. It is nicely designed tonearm I must admit, and it will make the dangly anti skate weight hate brigade very happy ;-)
