true hd sound

hi all. just bought a onkyo 577 amp and tannoy sfx speakers,ixos hdmi cables,cambridge sub lead and cambridge micro cables for surround speakers. everything working well and great sound.

my problem is i don,t seem to be getting true hd sound useing my blu ray player with my new set up. can anyone help me please

The most likely cause is that your blu-ray player isn't set up quite right. If you post the make and model, I'm sure you'll soon get a reply with some things to check.

Also check that the disc you are using is actually using TrueHD. There are some discs that whilst they have TrueHD soundtracks don't default to them. My version of The Dark Knight always needs to be switched to TrueHD

Most (all?) discs have a setup menu on them where you can select the language and subtitles. Some discs have multiple english options. The Dark Knight for examples has English and English Dolby True HD. By default it selects the English soundtrack which is bog standard Dolby Digital. In my experience most discs do default a HD soundtrack but the odd one or two don't
