When I was shopping for a new reciever I had my short list down to either the Onkyo 606 or the Denon 1909 and was lucky enough to be able to demo both. I have to say that I could have walked out the shop with the 606 and £50 to spend on films, but the 1909 won me over to a degree I was not expecting.
For me it has a deeper, less forced soundstage than the 606, is more musical and (minor point) looks a lot better.
I am absolutly blown away with how good the 1909 is, to the degree that running it at home has given new life to my speakers (I run Monitor Audio Radius R90s front, R45s surround, R180 centre and a BRW-10 sub), its worth every penny I spent on it.
The Audussey set-up is a easy to use, if a little time time consuming (requiring upto six sets of readings to be taken), but once done provides an excellent match to the room and the Volume Control works extremely well.
Personally I would whole-heartedly recomened the 1909, but I would also always recomend having a listen to one for yourself, I do however think that you will like it (a lot).
