Question Triggers and ir receiver

My AVR got a little bid old, so bought an pre amp as an upgrade to again support all the codecs.
I connected it to the ext. in on my old receiver to just use the amplifier. To later when I have budget again buy a dedicated amplifier.
Now the the old receiver needs to turn on when I turn on the new one.
My old receiver is an Denon AVR4310 and the new one a Marantz AV7706. The Denon has no trigger in, but does have a IR / remote in. Can I use these also ass triggers? Or does anybody have different suggestions?

Looking through the instructions I do not think it will do what you want.

Think you may simply have to switch them both on manually.
