Hi there,

Ive been enjoying my Cambridge Audio 650A/C for a few years now and im interested in adding a turntable (possiby the Project II). As Ive never had a tuntable before can anyone tell me what cables I would require to hook it up to the 650A and would I need a preamp? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Im a total newbie and I feel embarrassed for asking such a question!

Hi, your amp,as far as I can see, does not have an inbuilt phono stage so yes you will need a phono preamp of some description.

As far as cables go most turntables have fixed cables so you do not have to worry about those.

Bear in mind the current cost of vinyl before you seek out a turntable. It is not cheap unless you already have a stash of LPs.

If you are going to get one anyway I would strongly advise you get one that has been set up by a dealer.

You might need cables to connect the phono preamp to the 650A but I am sure any basic phono cable pair will do here, dealer can advise, but do not go spending a fortune should they suggest you do. :)

As Al says. And you shouldn't be worried about asking the dealer you buy from; they will want to ensure you are kitted out correctly. I think the Project Essential USB version has a built-in phono stage so can connect directly to your amp, as well as to a PC (as implied by the usb bit!).
